10,000 Rescued by Coast Guard Helicopters

Regardless of the insane problems with Katrina (security, Superdome, Convention Center, Cops abandoning their posts, no food or water or safety, looting) one of the commanders of the Coast Guard in Katrina made the statement that in the last 3 or 4 days, since the winds died down, that they have saved 10,000 lives.
