Sean--I wish I had found your post earlier when everyone here at P&G was asking me about my BlogHer experience! Your post is spot on the money! It was delightful meeting you and sharing pizza and I'm keeping paws crossed that I get to go to BlogHer 2010! Maybe we can share another pizza?

S,

This was such a thoughtful re-cap, and not just because it was overwhelmingly positive! You really EXPERIENCED the conference! I think we pulled many of the same takeaways. And, well, it's a constant feedback loop over here. I'm bookmarking this post as we--Lisa, Elisa, myself, and our team--keep iterating.

Thanks EmmieJ and Lisa for the comments

I love it when I see companies, big ones like GM or small ones like BlogHer LISTEN to the users. It shows a deep appreciation for the folks formerly knows as the audience.

There is a meme out there right now about the "weaponization" of social media and I completely disagree - for the first time we can talk back to Brands and conferences about what we love and hate and need and don't want. We couldnt do that before. The big risks now are commitment and opportunity cost. Listening=love=value. Radio Silence = perceived arrogance = loss. Pretty simple.

Lisa - no worries on the boo-hooing in the tablecloth - Dr Dre would approve, I am sure :)

Sean, this post is one more reason some of my favorite BlogHers are, well, BlogHims. Thanks for:

- Taking us seriously that men are a very welcome part of our conferences -- and you don't even have to be one of the dads or cooks in our network.

- Reading and linking the post Elisa and I wrote about our annual exercise, listening to recommendations for improvement. Here 'tis if you missed it: http://www.blogher.com/blogher-09-were-listening-and-heres-what-were-mulling-over-so-far

- Thanks for looking away when boo-hooed into your tablecloth during the keynote. You're 100 percent right re: the need for a tissue sponsor next year!

What a great summary post. I especially like your points about the community deciding about the SWAG. The trade-off between brand sponsorship (or brand overoad) and cost is an important one that I'm not sure all attendees fully appreciate. One of the most thought-provoking conferences I've been lucky to attend (The Milken Institute's Global Forum) is upwards of $1500 and that's still with a good deal of corporate sponsors offsetting cost. I'll be checking out the links to posts about content because I think, as always, there is room for improvement. But as you point out, this is an organization and a community where feedback is encouraged. I hope I'll get to go again next year to see how it evolves.

Densie and Chris -

Thanks to you both for the kind words, they mean a lot to me.

I really enjoyed the event, the people and the experience. The BlogHer team kicked a lot of ass over those two days (and god knows how many weeks/months before) to bring BlogHer09 to life.

Over the last few days I have been steadily getting pissed over the barrage of "too much swag" "too many brands" and "the crocs guy was threatened" posts and retweets and felt I needed to say something, however small. I love the fact that the community is speaking out about what they want and the founders aren't radio silent but engaging - its all the stuff I preach to clients come to life.

I got to meet amazing folks like you Denise and Bossy and Grace and others who I would never meet at your average tech event - and that's why BlogHer is becoming an annual event for me (and hopefully next year my business partner and my sister-in-law).

Denise - I woulld love to chat before next year.

Carfi - you suck, thanks for the hangover :)

You rock. This is a terrific look at BlogHer 09 and I thank you for taking the time to write it.

Next year, we'll chat for real and not just for 30 seconds before I'm heading home.
