thanks for the comments Dr Wright and Sonja

Point I was trying to make is, these channels aren't going away any time soon - marketers cant afford to walk away from them and go "all-in" into any for of Digital, there needs to be a balance, an understanding of the users to put the right message in the right medium/time/place.

I think traditional ad media will continue to decline, but then I base that projection largely on my own buying behavior. As a person who mostly goes to the computer screen for info, I don't know that I'm typical. I don't even watch TV.

As marketers know, there is a feeling of "safety" that comes with buying or using products which have familiarity, generated by advertising or user history. You just know your clothes are going to get clean if you use Tide. This is human nature and that's why billboards, TV ads, etc. work so well. You're probably right that they won't go away. And computer-based advertising will only work on those who regularly "read" the computer, like myself and everyone else who's reading this, which may not even be a majority of consumers.

The switch: traditional advertising will continue to work well for products purchased by the hoi polloi, because they are not generally getting the new media info. But for products which are sold largely to the intelligencia, traditional advertising must go into decline.

Billboards work great for publicity. I would buy bill boards in my town where people already KNOW for the increase visibility factor.

You can never get enough, dont I know you's while running around town.
